887,930. Agitating machines; magnetic stirrers; water-turbine drives. X-LON PRODUCTS Ltd. Nov. 16, 1960 [Nov. 25, 1959], No. 39370/60. Class 86. A laboratory stirring device, Fig 1, comprises a water turbine 3 carrying a magnet 9 which interacts with and rotates a plastic covered soft iron stirring rod 13 in a vessel 12 standing on the cover 2. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the turbine shaft 15 is extended downward to carry an additional mechanical stirrer; the device may be mounted in a retort stand by means of the arm 24. The impeller bearing has a labyrinth arrangement 23 to prevent the escape of water; modifications of this arrangement are described with reference to Figs. 6, 7 and 8 (not shown).
