In a coupling of the kind incorporating a sealing ring h which cuts into and seals on to the surface of a pipe b which is to be coupled up as a nut d is tightened, the nut has a relatively coarse screw thread which engages a similar thread on a coupling body a and a relatively fine screwthread #which engages a backing ring g adapted to bear on, or is integral with, the sealing ring to cause the latter to cut into the pipe.
