[Also in Group XXX] An apparatus for use in charging tunnel-kiln firing cars comprises a series of friction wheel drive units 3 which engage a friction rail on the underside of the firing cars 1 and which are arranged to balance the bearing pressure between the friction wheels 3a of the units 3 and the friction rail. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the firing cars 1 are fed by the units 3 on operation of a foot switch 4, past loading platforms 5 arranged at different heights to facilitate loading of the cars 1. The friction wheel drive units 3 are mounted on pivoted plates 7 upwardly biased at one end by a spring 9.
