887,235. Photographic roll film cameras. HEIDECKE, R., and FRANKE, H., [trading as FRANKE & HEIDECKE FABRIK PHOTOGR. PRAZISIONS - APPARATE.]. May 8, 1958 [July 11, 1957], No. 14755/58. Class 98(1). In a roll film camera, e.g. a twin lens camera in which the film metering and/or counting mechanism is driven from a measuring wheel which bears resiliently on the spooled film and is freely rotatable on a shaft parallel to the spooled film axis and operating said mechanism, the measuring wheel is coupled at will to the shaft or to intermediate gearing driving the shaft. As shown, the shaft 1 supported by a ball journal 4 on the camera wall 3 carries a gear 5 driving the film counter (Fig. 1, not shown), a gear 10, a rotatable hub 17 on which is formed the measuring wheel 15 engaging the spooled film S, and an axially slidable and freely rotatable sleeve 18 having fingers 19 keying the sleeve to the hub 17. A spring clip 21 seated between the enlargements on the sleeve 18 and having arms 22, 24 lying in axial grooves in these enlargements keys the sleeve to the shaft 1 by arm 22 engaging in a recess 23 in the shaft, the arm 24 engaging in a circumferential groove 25 in the shaft to locate the sleeve 18 axially. If a larger format is employed so that the feed per frame is greater, the sleeve is moved to the right, when it is released from driving engagement with the shaft, and, when located with the arm, 24 in the groove 26 in the shaft, brings a gear 20 on the sleeve to mesh with a gear 14 fixed on a hub 13 common to the gear 11 which is permanently in mesh with the gear 10, so that the wheel 15 drives the shaft 1 and gear 5 through the intermediate gearing 20, 14, 11, 10. If more than two formats are to be used more than one intermediate gearing may be provided by securing further different gears 14 on the hub 13 for engagement by the gear 20 by sliding the sleeve 18 to any one of a corresponding number of latching positions on the shaft 1.
