Abstract
A "used complex catalyst" is roasted above 500 DEG C. in presence of a gas containing free oxygen, treated with strong acid (e.g. acetic, hydrochloric, nitric or sulphuric) to extract soluble components, washed with a liquid (e.g. water) to remove acid, a catalyst component selected from the following group being then deposited on the product:-Pt, In, Pd, Ni, Fe, Co and Cr and Mo oxides. The used "complex catalyst" is one produced in a two-stage deposition process, starting with an amphoteric oxide (such as alumina) of specific surface area greater than 10m2/gm as described in Specifications 844,242, 844,243 or 863,852 and which has been used in a hydrocarbon conversion reaction, the component deposited in the second stage being capable after roasting of removal by strong acid.ALSO:A "used complex catalyst" is roasted above 500 DEG C. in presence of a gas containing free oxygen, treated with strong acid (e.g. acetic hydrochloric, nitric or sulphuric) to extract soluble components, washed with a liquid (e.g. water) to remove acid, a catalyst component selected from the following group being then deposited on the product: Pt, In, Pd, Ni, Fe, Co and Cr and Mo oxides. Processes also mentioned, which are effected in the vapour phase and at elevated temperature are (a) molecular fission of hydrocarbons in presence or absence of added hydrogen and (b) hydrogenation of unsaturated hydrocarbons.
