Abstract
886,127. Electric measuring systems. GARRETT CORPORATION. Sept. 24, 1959, No. 32475/59. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XL (c)] Apparatus for telemetering physical conditions of a high-speed turbine comprises transistorized oscillators, each amplitude or frequency modulated by a transducer, and located in a hollow portion of the turbine shaft, the mixed frequencies being transmitted by radio or by inductive coupling to a local receiver where they are separated and demodulated. As shown (Fig. 1) a strain gauge resistor 25 is mounted on the driving shaft 18 to measure its torque, a temperature-sensitive resistor 26 is mounted on a blade of the turbine rotor 10, and a coil 27 is driven by the rotor to produce a pulse each time it passes a fixed magnet 28, to measure the speed of the shaft. Each transducer is connected to an oscillator 21 (Fig. 2) to modulate its output, the modulated signals being mixed in a unit 29 and fed to a transmitting coil 30 which is coupled to a receiver B by coils 33, 32, 31, or by a coil coaxial with transmitting coil 30, if the shaft is continuously hollow. The transmitter A is preferably an encapsulated unit.
