Abstract
885,917. Ventilators. BARKER, D. R., and BARKER, W. H. April 17, 1958 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 2740/57. Class 137 A ventilator grille comprises a frame 1 for supporting first and second sets of spaced-apart blades or louvre-like slats 2, 4, the second set being laterally-directed to intersect the first, both sets being supported at the blade ends to adjust the angular disposition of each blade, one set having cut-out portions 3, e.g. of "V" notch form, along their lengths where they intersect the other set, each blade 2 thereof pivoting about an axis between its width, the other blades 4 having plain or un-notched edges extending into the portions 3 and pivoting adjacent the apices thereof about their inner edges, so that the two sets form a honeycomb of cells having variable direction. The notches 3 in the blades 2 may extend about half their width and all blades may be of thin sheet metal, formed as a double thickness, opened up at the ends to provide sockets for nylon pivot pins 5. Each blade 4 however, may be of substantially aerofoil cross-section from its leading edge to its trailing edge, whereas each blade 2 may be of such cross-section from its leading edge to a line adjacent its longitudinal centre axis, with socket-forming opened-up ends adjacent the said centre line. The frame 1 and the blades 2, 4 may be of metal or plastic.
