Abstract

1468850 Louvred damper construction AUTODAMP AIR SYSTEMS Ltd 11 July 1974 [31 July 1973] 30840/74 Heading F4V [Also in Division F2] A damper for controlling the flow of gases along a duct or passageway comprises louvres 42-45 pivoted in a frame. Resilient sealing means 36, Fig. 2, along opposed side members 17, 18 of the frame resiliently engage the ends of the blades when they are aligned in closed overlapping position. The sealing means have convex portions, Fig. 3 (not shown), which press against the blade ends in the direction parallel with the blades' pivot axes. The blades are mechanically connected such that adjacent blades rotate in opposite directions. Each blade has a pivot axis 78, Fig. 5A, and pivots by means of a shaft 59, Fig. 2, mounted in holes in the side members of the frame. Blades 42 and 43 are connected by a link 74 pivoted to members 72 and 70. Blades 44 and 45 are connected by similar members 76, 72 and 70, Fig. 5A. Blades 43 and 45 are connected by a link 68 pivoted to members 64 so ensuring that the blades 43 and 45 rotate in the same direction at the same rate. Drive is applied to either or both the blades 43 and 45. Considering the pair of blades 42 and 43, the connection 72, 74, 70 ensures that, as viewed in Fig. 5A, while turning the blades to their closed position, blade 42 turns clockwise and blade 43 counterclockwise. Thus both overlapping blade edges travel in the same direction across the sealing means toward alignment thereby avoiding pinching of the resilient sealing means. The connection 72, 74, 70 is such that, as alignment is approached, blade 43 turns faster than blade 42 and the distance between the overlapping edges progressively decreases. At the overlapping edges of adjacent blades there are resilient sealing means (56), Fig. 4 (not shown).
