Abstract
885,690. Positive clutches; change-speed gear. CHICAGO AERIAL INDUSTRIES Inc. March 24, 1958 [March 28, 1957], No. 9374/58. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XX] A gear change is effected by a coupling having a spring tongue which can occupy one of two positions. In the form shown, gears 95, 96 are secured to the driving shaft 91. These gears mesh with gears 103, 104 which are rotatably mounted on, but not secured to, the driven shaft 17. Pins 119, 120 project from gears 104, 103 respectively. The coupling 107 has a body part 108 which is secured to, and may be integral with, shaft 17. This encloses a spring having a tongue 112, which engages in a notched pin 115. Pin 115 is normally in the position shown in Figs. 4 and 5, i.e. it engages behind pin 119, so that gear 96 drives gear 104 which in turn drives coupling 107 and hence shaft 17. When the spring tongue 112 is pushed across into its second position (Fig. 6), pin 115 moves clear of pin 119 and engages behind pin 120 instead. Thus shaft 91 now drives shaft 17 via gears 95, 103. The gear change is effected by an axially mounted selector pin 116, actuated by a solenoid 117, 118. Specification 868,200 and U.S.A. Specification 2,413,349 are referred to.
