Abstract
885,487. Magnetic recorders; long-playing attachments. TOKYO DENKI KAGAKU KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA, and HOSHINO, Y. Jan. 29, 1959 [Feb. 1, 1958], No. 3223/59. Class 40 (2). An attachment for the machine described in Specification 850,291 enables it to play long, perforated records as an alternative to the standard type. In the standard arrangement of Fig. 4, the turntable 14 carrying heads a, b and c is traversed by the leadscrew 27 so that the heads scan a stationary sheet record in arcuate tracks. As modified, an alternative plate 8<SP>1</SP>, carrying record feeding apparatus 31, 32, 35<SP>1</SP> and an additional motor M 3 replaces the original plate (8, Fig. 3, not shown). The motor M 3 or alternatively a drive derived from either of the motors supplied with the standard machine, drives the sprocket 35<SP>1</SP> directly and the take-up roller 32 by means of a slipping friction drive arrangement. In this simple embodiment, the drive to the sprocket 35<SP>1</SP> can be disengaged by the means 40 for fast forward wind and a handle is provided for rewind. The turntable 14 is not traversed using this arrangement, the sprocket holes being relied upon for registration. In further embodiments: (a) The attachment is hinged to the parent machine for quick change-over of function; (b) Interlinked drives and brakes are provided for 31, 32 and 351; (c) A guide for a knife is provided for cutting the record; (d) Windows are provided in the pressure plate 52 for the observation of editing marks and other visual features on the upper face of the record.
