Abstract
The invention comprises organoboron compounds of the formula HCC.Y where Y is -B(OR)3M or -B(OR)2, where R is an alkyl radical, preferably of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and M is Na, Li, K, MgCl or MgBr. The compounds of the formula HCC.B(OR)3M may be made by reacting an ethinyl compound HCC.M, with a borate ester, preferably a borate ester having alkyl groups of 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The dialkyl ethynylboronates HCC.B(OR)2 may be made by reacting the metal ethynyl trialkoxyborates with an anhydrous compound having an active halogen atom, e.g. benzoylchloride or borontrichloride, in a non-hydroxylic solvent, such as hydrocarbon and ethereal solvents, e.g. diglyme or xylene, and distilling off the desired product from the reaction mixture. Examples describe reaction of sodium acetylide with (1) trimethylborate giving sodium ethynyl trimethoxyborate and (2) tri-isopropyl borate giving sodium ethynyl tri-isopropoxyborate; and (3) the reaction of the first product with boron trichloride giving dimethyl ethynyl boronate.
