Abstract
An anhydrous salt (e.g. halide) of a metal of Group I, II or III of the Periodic Table is reacted with a monosodium or monopotasium hydrocarbon compound having the sodium or potassium bound direct to carbon. The hydrocarbon may be polymeric or non-polymeric, alkyl, alkaryl or aryl. The reaction may be carried out with heat and/or by ball-milling, and preferably in the presence of an inert hydrocarbon solvent, as in the parent Specification.
