Abstract

884,396. Magnetic interrupters. MAGNAVOX CO. April 9, 1958 [April 15, 1957], No. 11198/58. Class 38 (5). A motor-driven non-magnetic plate 16 supports, on blocks 22, two concentric magnetic rings 18, 20 polarized by permanent magnets 28. Switches 52, supported on brackets 54 on a fixed support 50, extend into the gap 24 between the rings 18, 20. The ring 18 is recessed at 26 where each magnet 28 is mounted and the magnets one off-set as shown in Fig. 3 so that as each magnet passes a switch 52 the magnetic flux acting thereon varies in order to operate the switch. Each switch as described in Specification 884,397 comprises a non- magnetic metal tube 58 fitted with a soft iron plug 64 carrying a resilient wire support 62 for the armature 60. The latter has a contact 60a alternatively engaging fixed contacts 68, 70 supported in insulating compound 72 in the upper portion 66 of the tube 58. Portion 66 carries a terminal 74 for the electrical connection to the armature contact. The contacts 60a, 68 and 70 may be of gold and the tube may be fluid filled for preventing armature vibration.
