Abstract

884,365. Valve and transistor amplifying circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 14, 1958 [May 21, 1957], No. 16108/57. Class 40(6). A direct-coupled amplifier employing valves or transistors comprises two similar channels each comprising a plurality of direct-coupled amplifying stages (e.g. V1, V3, V5 and V2, V4, V6) in which certain corresponding stages are coupled together by resistors connected in common to their cathode or emitter electrodes and is provided with negative feedback from the junction point of two equal resistors R connected between the two output terminals to the common cathode or emitter resistor of the first pair of stages through a a cathode follower or emitter follower (e.g. V7) of which the load resistor is the common resistor of the first pair of stages. Thus in the valve circuit shown the common cathode resistors reduce the unbalanced components of the input signals e<SP>1</SP>, e<SP>11</SP> and these are further reduced by feeding back the sum of the output signals E<SP>1</SP>, E<SP>11</SP> from the junction point of the resistors R. The balanced components however are not so attenuated so that equal and opposite output signals E<SP>1</SP>, E<SP>11</SP> are obtained corresponding to the balanced components in the input signals e<SP>1</SP>, e<SP>11</SP>. A circuit in which the valves are replaced by equivalently connected transistors is illustrated in Fig. 5 (not shown).
