Abstract

810,417. Transistor amplifiers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Oct. 29,1957, No. 33712/57. Class 40 (6). In a transistor amplifier the output stage comprises a plurality of pairs of transistors each connected in push-pull, with the emitter-base circuits of the transistors all arranged in series as regards the input signal currents from the preceding stage and the collector-base circuits all arranged in parallel as regards the output signal currents carried thereby. As shown a transistor amplifier comprises a first push-pull stage including transistors 7A, 7B and an output stage comprising pairs of transistors 17A, 17B and 19A, 19B respectively. The transistors in the output stage are all connected in parallel as regards the power supply from the source 5 but are arranged so that as regards the signal currents their input circuits are all effectively connected in series through capacitors 18A, 18B. Chokes 25A, 25B serve to isolate the circuits which are connected in parallel as regards the direct-current supply. Similarly the collectorbase circuits of the transistors are connected effectively in parallel by being connected to respective primary windings of the transformer 26. The collector electrodes of transistors 17A, 17B are connected to the source 5 through respective chokes 30A, 30B. Negative feedback is provided by interconnections between the collector electrodes of transistors 19A and 19B and respective emitter electrodes in the preceding stage. In order to prevent possible instability when the output of the amplifier is open-circuited a large-valued resistor 33 is connected across the secondary winding of the transformer 26.
