884,219. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. RADYNE Ltd. June 14, 1960 [June 17, 1959], 20820/59. Class 42 (1). A rotatable work-table for a welding press has a plurality of work areas, an indexing means whereby the table can be rotated to bring each work area in turn into operative index position in the welding press and a braking device operative shortly before an index position is reached to brake the rotation of the work-table. The invention is particularly applicable to the welding of thermoplastic material by dielectric heating and in the Fig. 1 indicates a rotating table which passes between the electrodes 8 of the welding press. A roller 2 is arranged to run along the periphery of the table and is carried by a beam 3 pivoted to a fixed point 4, the other end of the beam being connected with an air cylinder 7. A recess 6 is provided in the edge of table 1 just prior to each index position and is shaped with a gently sloping lead-in side 6a and a steep lead-out side 6b. Thus, shortly before the table 1 reaches an index position it must move the roller 2 rapidly outwards against the spring 5, thus producing a braking action on the table. Additional pressure is also applied to the movement of the roller outwards by air cylinder 7 (or an electromagnetic solenoid).
