Abstract

884,165. Diagnostic compositions. MILES LABORATORIES Inc. May 13, 1960 [May 21, 1959], No. 16986/60. Class 1(1) A composition for detecting ketone bodies and their precursors e.g. acetone, acetoacetic acid and betahydroxybutyric acid in body fluids comprises (a) sodium nitroprusside (b) disodium phosphate (c) monosodium phosphate (d) glycine (e) sodium chloride and/or sodium alginate and (f) one or more of: 1, 3-diamino-2-propanol, 2-amino-2-methyl-1, 3-propanediol, 2-(2-aminoethylamino)ethanol, 3,3<SP>1</SP>diaminodipropylamine, diethanolamine, 1,3-diaminopropane and 1,4- diaminobutane. A suitable diagnostic strip may be prepared by making an aqueous solution of components (a)-(e), impregnating bibulous strips therewith and drying at 75‹-100‹C., further impregnating with an ethanolic solution of component or components (f) and drying at 45‹ C. Proportions of the components are given: the first solution is made up in a special order. Specifications 651,448, 667,715 and U.S.A. Specification 2,186,902 are referred to.
