Abstract

883,478. Rivets. DOWTY SEALS Ltd. Jan. 14, 1960 [Dec. 18, 1958], No. 40915/58. Class 89(1). A rivet comprises a hollow member 1 of resilient non-metallic material with a flanged head 5 at one end, a circumferentiallycontinuous intermediate shank portion 7 and an end shank portion 8 which has axial slots 9 and tapered wall portions 11, and a pin 18 which is driven into bore 12 to expand portion 8. The pin has annular enlargements 21, 19 so that the pin may be inserted either end first, one enlargement expanding portion 7 to fill the holes through which it passes, and the other expanding portion 8 to form a head. Head flange 3 is arcuate and seals against the adjacent surface of the work being riveted.
