Abstract
1370002 Riveting GRUMMAN AEROSPACE CORP 10 Sept 1971 [6 Nov 1970] 51666/73 Divided out of 1370001 Heading B3U [Also in Division F2] The mandrel 12 of a blind rivet 10 has the portion extending through the rivet shank 11 to the mandrel head 17 tapered from a diameter adjacent the head 17 greater than the inside diameter of the shank 11 to a diameter less than the inside diameter of the shank 11, so that as the mandrel is drawn into the shank 11 an interference fit is established between the mandrel and the inside wall of the rivet shank 11, and between the shank 11 and the wall of the rivet hole through workpieces 15, 16.
