Abstract
882,935. Heat treatment furnaces. GREENE, B. May 27, 1960 [May 28, 1959], No. 18270/69. Class 51 (2). A cylindrical heat treatment furnace of the forced convection type has a fan chamber 29 connected to roof and side ducts 19 opening into the treatment chamber by ports 20, a door 13 formed with a concavity 39 having a passage 41 to a heat exchanger 30 connected by a duet 28 to the fan chamber, and electric heating elements 8 suspended by conductors 9 in said ports 20. The shell comprises steel sections 10 lined with refractories 14 and 17 respectively formed with holes for suspension rods 15 and 18 attached to said shell. The hearth consists of steel plates 40 covered by refractory blocks 35 arranged to form channels 36 acting as air ducts, and also, if necessary, receiving the arms of a fork lift charging truck. Atmosphere gas, e.g. hydrogen, helium, nitrogen or argon, is supplied under pressure from a holder 51 and after use may pass through purifying and drying chambers on the inlet side of a pump 35. A vacuum pump 45 has a connection 46 either to duct 28 or to the treatment chamber. Air passages may extend from the fan outlet duct 26 through end wall 24 into the treatment chamber.
