Abstract

882,793. Sharpening cutting edges. ALORIX Ltd., and LUBBOCK, I. Jan. 19, 1960 [Nov. 10, 1959], No. 38038/59. Class 60. A machine for grinding knives or other edge tools comprises two grinding wheels 5, 6 spaced axially from each other on a common drive shaft 4, and a jig 9 arranged between, and spaced equally from, the adjacent faces of the grinding wheels for supporting a knife or tool in a sharpening position against one or other of the adjacent faces of the grinding wheels. The jig has opposed faces, which may be flat or convex, and is carried by a frame 10 vertically-adjustable in a bracket 11 secured to a base 1. The shaft 4 is driven by a motor 3, which is preferably electric, and each wheel is provided with a guard 7,8 carrying strips 13, 14 co-acting with the jig to guide the knife or tool during the sharpening operation. The end of the shaft may extend beyond the guard 8 and carry a polishing mop or other tool 17.
