Abstract

The polyester used to form cellular polyurethanes on reaction with water and a polyisocyanate is derived from butane 1,3 di ol, at least one aliphatic quadrihydroxy compound, e.g. pentaerythritol, and adipic and/or glutaric acid. Up to 40 mole per cent of the total acid may be succinic, phthalic, isophthalic or terephthalic acid. Lists of suitable components are given together with optional ingredients which include catalysts, e.g. tertiary amines and their salts, metal oxides and complexes, and salts of weak acids; surface active and nucleating agents; colours; flame proofers and plasticizers.
