Abstract

882,522. Toothed gearing; converting rotary into reciprocating motion. WEBER & CO: Inc., H. G. Aug. 28, 1958 [Sept. 9, 1957], No. 27656/58. Class 80 (1). A shaft 27, Fig. 1, with a sprocket 29 and chain 30 is driven at a cyclically varying speed from a constant speed driving shaft 20 and helical gear 21 in mesh with an axially slidable helical gear 28 on the shaft 27. The gear 28 is reciprocated on its shaft to obtain the desired speed variation of chain 30 to actuate, for example, the crimper, cutter knife or anvil rollers of an automatic bag or pouch-making machine, by collars 31, 32 mounted upon a pair of reciprocating rods 33. These rods are coupled to one end of a lever arm 37 which is pivotally mounted on an adjustable pivot 55 and coupled at its other end to a pair of rods 50 which are reciprocated by a cam groove 47 engaged by a follower 48 mounted on the rods 50. The pivot 55 is adjustable by a screw 56 to vary the ratio between rods 50 and 33 change the degree of speed variation of the driven shaft 27. In Fig. 9 a pair of driven shafts 110 are driven at cyclically varying speed from a constant speed driving shaft 42 through differentials 120, the cage members of the differentials being oscillated by reciprocating racks 129 meshing with gears 128 on the cages to provide the required speed variation. The racks 129 are reciprocated through lever arms 130 pivoted on an adjustable pivot 131 and engaging at one end the racks 129 and at the other end cam followers 48 sliding on rods 50, 51. The cam followers 48 are reciprocated by a cam groove 47 on driving shaft 42. In Fig. 7 a reciprocating bracket 90 of a bag sealing mechanism is actuated by a lever 71 adjustably pivoted at 77 and coupled at one end to the bracket 90 sliding on rods 91 and at the other end to a bracket 64 sliding on rods 67 which carry follower 66 engaging in a groove of a cam 45 on a constant speed driving shaft.
