Abstract
882,444. Measuring electrically. FIELDEN ELECTRONICS Ltd. Nov. 9, 1959 [Nov. 18, 1958; July 27, 1959], Nos. 37025/58 and 25638/59. Class 40(1). A transducer means for converting a force into an output current comprises a balanceable member such as the beam 4 to which the force is applied, as at 14, a movable condenser element 6, integral with the beam 4 and a stationary condenser element, which together with circuit means 11 provide an output current which energizes electromagnetic means to apply to the beam a balancing force dependent on the output current to restore the beam to a predetermined balance condition. The electromagnetic means comprise a cylindrical permanent magnet 2 and an annular coil 1 energized by the current, the magnet 2 being integral with the beam 4 and movable along the axis 3 of the core, the condenser elements 6, 7 being discs positioned perpendicularly to that axis within a cup-shaped body 8, charged with electrically insulating liquid, whereby the movable element 6 and the cup 8 coact to damp oscillation of the beam 4. The magnet 2 may itself comprise the movable element 6 and co-operate with the cup 8 in a piston-dashpot manner. Embodiments are described wherein the force to be measured may be a high-pressure difference or a lowpressure difference. The balanceable member may be a vertical spring-loaded rod.
