Abstract

Class 39(1) [Also in Group XL(c)] In a cathode-ray tube display system for the display of data in binary digital code, the input signal is applied directly to a number, corresponding to the number of digits in the signal, of deflection coils or plates which effect deflections in the same direction by amounts in a geometrical progression having a common ratio of 2, e.g. 4:2:1, so that the deflection for each digit corresponds to the significance of the digit in the binary coded signal. The deflection coils or plates may be similar and energised through relays from sources of appropriate different magnitudes, or of appropriate different deflection sensitivities and energised by signals, e.g. the incoming digital signals, of equal magnitude. The incoming digital information may be in serial or parallel form. As described three deflection coils are wound on a common former and each coil may be split into two halves, one on each side of the beam. Deflection may be effected in two orthogonal directions and the invention may be applied to a PPI radar display system with rotating deflection coils, the range information being in binary coded digital form.
