Abstract

882,339. Current collectors for electric vehicles. STONE & CO. (DEPTFORD) Ltd., J. Aug. 15, 1960 [Aug. 18, 1959; July 8, 1960], Nos. 28210/59 and 23944/60. Class 104 (3). In a pantograph current collector in which a carbon strip is clamped to the collector bow frame, the or each carbon strip 3 is secured to the frame 2 by a rigid sheath 6, which extends along and fits about the underside of the strip 3, and at least one fixing member 7 which extends downwardly through the frame 2, from the sheath 6 and is secured on the other side of the frame 2 from the strip 2 and sheath 3 assembly. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the fixing member 7 is a T- headed bolt, the head of which is located above the base of the sheath 6 and within a slot 8 formed in the base of the strip 3. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 4 (not shown), the fixing member is a threaded stud welded to the base of the sheath 6. The sheath 6 is secured to outwardly bevelled lower edges of the strip 3. The sheath 6 may be of leaded or tin coated steel and the surfaces of the strip 3 enclosed by the sheath 6 are coated with a copper-spray.
