Abstract

881,806. Ventilators. WEAVER, G. R. E. Sept. 14, 1959 [Sept. 17, 1958; May 22, 1959], Nos. 29811/58 and 17405/59. Class 137 [Also in Group XXVI] An automatically controlled hit and miss type ventilator for use with a fan comprises a shutter 7 rotatably driven by the spindle 21 of a motor 19, two matching fan sections 5 supported on a hub 23 and bushing 13 and driven by a lost motion pin and slot connection from the shutter 7 which is resiliently connected to the bushing 13 by a spring 8, and a second shutter 17 also resiliently connected by a spring to the bushing 13 and having a pin and slot driving connection with the fan sections. When rotating in one direction the fan supplies fresh air through one set of apertures and withdraws foul air through another set in which case one shutter has apertures 32 (Fig. 8) which coincide with apertures 26 in the fan rotor when the fan is rotating normally but which move relative to the rotor (because of the pin and slot connection) to close the apertures 26 when the fan slows down or stops. Similarly the apertures 25 in the fan rotor are controlled by the shutter 17. Only a single shutter may be employed in which case it controls all the apertures at one side of the fan and the fan rotor mßy be driven by the motor whilst the shutters are driven from the rotor. The shutters have fins 33 and a light baffle 6 is included. The fan may be adapted for one-way operation by providing a keyhole spring between each shutter and the fan rotor and having a pin and slot connection to limit relative movement between only one shutter and the rotor so that this shutter is open when the fan rotates in one direction but closed in the opposite direction whilst the other shutter since it can move through the full extent of the "keyhole" in both directions is open for both senses of rotation of the fan. Specification 872,472 is referred to.
