Abstract
881,544. Electric heating resistances. ELECTROFILM Inc. May 7, 1959 [May 8, 1958], No. 15670/59. Class 39(3) An electrical heating element, particularly for use on aircraft for preventing or removing ice formation, comprises a plurality of elongated bands 14 of woven material containing conductive wires adhered to an insulative base sheet 12 with adjacent edges overlapping one another, and electrically insulating material 19 interposed between the overlapping portions 14a, 14b of the bands to prevent flow of electric current from one band to another. As shown the bands 14, comprising conductive wires interwoven both longitudinally and transversely with strands of glass, ceramic or asbestos fibres, are secured by means of cement or thermosetting resins to a base layer 12 of thermosetting resin-impregnated glass cloth. The bands are electrically connected at one end by conductive strip 22 and current is supplied thereto through terminals 20 of conductive strips 21. The whole element is coated with a layer 23 of thermosetting resin, e.g. phenol, urea or melamine-modified formaldehydes or epoxide resins.
