Abstract

[Also in Group XXIII] A tyre T is received in a section 20 of a conveyer prior to feeding into a section 11, wherein its side walls are abraded by grinding wheels 80, 80a (Group XXIII), by gate-arms 21, 22 which carry vertically-disposed rollers 30a ... 30d, are pivotally mounted at 23, 24, and connected by links 25a ... 25d to a piston- and-cylinder device 29. During abrading of a tyre in the section 11, the gate-arms are in the position shown in Fig. 2 to receive a tyre from a feeder conveyer. At the completion of the abrading operation, the finished tyre is conveyed by rollers 90 driven by a motor 91 to an unloading conveyer and the gate-arms are operated by a tyre in the section 20 to be fed by rollers 13 driven by a motor 15 into the abrading section 11, the vertical rollers 30b, 30d preventing a following tyre outering the section 20. The tyre in the section 11 is aligned with upper and lower bead-engaging members 31, 31a by vertically-disposed rollers 53a ... 53d carried by arms 40 ... 43 pivoted by gears 49 ... 52 connected by links 48a ... 48d to a piston-and-cylinder device 35.
