880,736. Concrete piles. ELECTRICITE DE FRANCE. Nov. 19, 1959 [Nov. 19, 1958], No. 39339/59. Class 68(2). A method of constructing cast-in situ concrete piles which have an enlarged foot, comprises forming a bore with. a lining tube 1 which has longitudinal slots 2<SP>1</SP> at its lower end. An expansible member 4 is lowered into the tube, a mass of concrete 3 is placed over it and pressure fluid pumped into the member 4 to expand the bottom of the tube. Volume and pressure indicators are provided to assist in controlling the flow of fluid. In a modification (Fig. 2) there are no slots in the lining and an inner tube 6 is provided which is stronger than the lining tube 7. A pressure medium is pumped through the line 8 to the space between the tubes, after the lining tube has been filled with concrete. In a second modification (Fig. 3) an anchor plate 12 attached to a rod 13 is lowered into the bore, a number of bags 14 and 15 positioned over it and held in place by a concrete filling 18 while they are expanded by a pressure medium pumped through the pipes 16 and 17. In all the embodiments described the pressure medium may be the concrete which is to form the foundation.
