Abstract

880,585. Two-part couplings. CANNON ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 25, 1959 [Sept. 29, 1958], No. 29011/59. Class 38 (1). In a multi-contact two-part electrical connector the exposed conductors of a strip cable, i.e. an insulating sheet with a plurality of spaced parallel conductors, with an end secured in the body of one part of the connector are pressed against the conductors secured in the body of the other part by a resilient member with a convex outside surface. As shown, a strip cable 13 enters a receptacle member 11, preferably of insulating material, through a slit 46 in a rear wall 22, which may be detachable, and passes over the apex 41 of the curved surface of a resilient member 35. The cable 13 is secured by folding an end 49 under the front edge 36 of the resilient member 35 which is then inserted in a groove 30 in a front wall 20 and by screws 55 which cut through the margin of the cable 13. Conductors 52 of the cable 13, exposed on the apex 41 and rearward slope 43 by stripping away the insulation, engage conductors in a similar co-operating plug member 10, having rabbeted edges 64 interfitting with a lip 63 on the side walls 18, 19 of the receptacle member 11. Contact pressure is increased by ribs 68 on the member 35 which may be a resilient sheet or of elastomer secured to the bottom wall 17.
