Abstract
1447503 Connecting cells into batteries CROMPTON PARKINSON Ltd 28 Aug 1974 [9 July 1973] 32529/73 Heading H1B [Also in Division H2] An electric cell includes a conductive casing forming an electrode of the cell and having a tubular portion, a container of substantially rigid plastics material enclosing the casing and an electrically conductive connector strip positioned at least partly between the inner surface of the container and the tubular electrode portion and having one or more sharp edges or projections which are urged to cut into the surface of the tubular portion. In a battery, the container comprises a plurality of compartments a plurality of compartments each enclosing a single cell, the cells being connected by strips as mentioned above. The strips are urged into the respective surfaces by their resilience and/or by there being an interference fit between the casing or compartment wall and the tubular portion. A first embodiment of a strip is shown in Fig. 5 and comprises a connector at one end to fit over the central rod of one cell, and projections 35 near the other end, in use the strip being bent over a compartment wall into an L-shape. A second embodiment, Fig. 7, has two sharp protruding edges 37. A negative terminal of the cell or battery, Fig. 16, comprises a strip 32 having two sharp contact edges, a first 33 to engage in the wall of a recess in the casing and a second 34 to engage in the surface of the tubular electrode portion.
