Abstract

880,260. Bowden mechanisms. MELSOM, W. A., and HOWDEN (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Jan. 30, 1958 [Feb. 13, 1957], No. 4955/57. Class 80 (3). The outer casings of Bowden mechanisms are provided at their ends with bushes 4 having lips 6 lightly pressing on the cable 1 to form a lubricant seal and preventing the ingress of foreign matter. The lips 6 may be provided on either or both sides of the bush and may be rifled internally to fit the cable periphery in which case it is adapted to rotate in its housing 5 secured to the outer casing. The bush is of a polymeric plastic material such as nylon or P.T.F.E. and the outer casing is preferably also provided with a coating 3 of waterproof material such as polyvinyl chloride or nylon.
