Abstract

880,110. Thermal switches. SVENSKA MASKINVERKEN A.B. May 6, 1958 [Nov. 9, 1957], No. 14430/58. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XIII] A protective device to prevent dry boiling of steam and hot-water boilers, comprises a melting pin 17, inserted in a rod-shaped holder 18 which moves freely in a guiding sleeve 34, the pin 17 being kept pressed against a wall 2 heated by combustion gases, by means of a spring 19 compressed between a flange 38 and a stop 36 on the holder 18. Members 17, 18, 34 are enclosed by sealed tubular chambers 24, 25 fastened together by a sleeve 26. A mantle 21 containing a switch 20, the flange 38 and the spring 19, and having a glass inspection cover 40, is bolted to one end of the tube 25, which is passed through an outer wall 1 of the boiler by means of sleeves 29, 31. A low water level in the boiler (Fig. 1, not shown), causes the wall 2 to overheat, pin 17 to melt and the holder 18 to release an actuating head 39 of the switch 20 thereby disconnecting the fuel supply to the boiler and, if desired, stopping a fan for air and combustion gases.
