880,092. Nuclear reactors. UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. July 8, 1958 [July 19, 1957], No. 23022/57. Class 39 (4). A support for a heavy structure (e.g. a reactor core) inside a pressure vessel comprises a platform or grid joined to the inside of the vessel by curved webs, the webs having stiffness in the load-carrying direction and flexibility sideways. Three types of web 6 are shown in plan view supporting a core grid 3 in a vessel 1 (support is provided at each end of the core). The webs may be welded at each end (between lines 10 and 11), or welded at one end and pin jointed at the other (between 11 and 12), or welded at one end and riveted tangentially at the other (between 10 and 11).
