Abstract

879,314. Fishing apparatus. SMITH RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Inc. May 9, 1960, No. 16261/60. Class 48. An electrical circuit for producing current pulses between electrodes B immersed in water comprises one or more capacitors C2, C3 charged by a D.C. generator G and a pair of ignitrons Ig1, Ig2 controlling the charging and discharging of the capacitors. The current pulses are used to stun fish or to direct fish into a net or fish pump. Each capacitor C2, C3 charges to half the voltage of the generator. Ignitron lg1 is then fired and capacitor C2 discharges between the electrode B and at the same time capacitor C3 charges to the full voltage of the generator. When the current has died away the other ignitron Ig2 is fired and capacitor C3 discharges between the electrodes B whilst the other capacitor C2 charges to the full voltage of the generator. The ignitrons are fired alternately by gas discharge tubes (not shown). Capacitor C2 may be omitted. In a further circuit producing unidirectional pulses the electrodes B are connected to the secondary of a transformer having a primary winding with ends connected to the ignitrons and a tapping connected between the two capacitors.
