878,996. Hand drills. LUSSKIN, H., LUSSKIN, L. S., and LUSSKIN, R. Aug. 21, 1959 [Feb. 3, 1959], No. 28590/59. Class 83 (3). A manually-operated drilling-machine comprises an arm 15 rotatably supporting a shaft 20 and pivotally-connected to a second arm 18 by a spring 12. Pins 35 on arm 18 run in a helical groove 36 in the shaft to rotate the shaft and a chuck 29 thereon when arms 15, 18 are moved manually towards and from each other. In a modification the shaft 20 has two helical grooves of opposite hand, either of which can be selectively engaged by the pin 35 to rotate the chuck in either direction. The shaft 20 may be hollow to receive a pin 45 for insertion into a bore &c. during surgical operations.
