Abstract
878,537. Electric motors. WENGEL, S. M. March 7, 1960, No. 8018/60. Class 35. An electric motor comprises a bar magnet 42 mounted in a carrier 12 on a spindle 26 within a field coil consisting of two intimately interwound coils 14, 16 connected to flexible contact arms 56, 60, respectively, which are alternately engaged by a contact-pin 62 projecting from the rotor to energize the coils alternately, the coils being connected in opposite senses. The rotor is brought to rest in a position suitable for starting by a magnetic arm 84. It is stated that placing the rotor within the field coil suppresses arcing at the contacts, and the movable contact is of silver while the stationary contacts are of phosphor bronze.
