878,501. Copy-milling; machine-tool details. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR Ltd. Oct. 2, 1957 [Oct. 20, 1956], No. 32012/56. Class 83 (3). An hydraulic tracer valve comprises damping means acting on a moving part of the valve over a restricted portion of the operative travel of the part. The valve has a damping chamber 14 with a conically ended screw for adjusting an orifice 21. The valve shuttle is biased downwardly by a spring 15 adjusted by a screw 16. The damping means is cut out when the valve shuttle 1 uncovers a passage 22. An adjusting device may be provided, acting on the lower part of the shuttle, whereby the shuttle may be raised to allow rapid withdrawal of the cutter from the work; at the same time, lifting of the shuttle allows the damping chamber to be replenished with fluid. The stylus may be balljointed. The valve may be mounted in a machine wherein either the cutter or the tracer is movable.
