Abstract

878,463. Stabilizing line of sight; levels. MAGYAR OPTIKAI MUVEK. May 27,1958 [May 27, 1957; April 21, 1958], No. 16937/58. Classes 97(1) and 97(2) The line of sight of a telescope is automatically compensated for small inclinations of the telescope axis by the provision of pendulously mounted reflecting surfaces which reflect light rays at least twice on to one or more reflecting surfaces which are fixed in relation to the telescope. As shown in Fig. 1, between the objective 1 and eyepiece 13 of the telescope there is provided a body 3 having reflecting surfaces 8, 10, this body being pendulously mounted by filaments 6. Also in the telescope is a fixed mirror 9 which reflects light rays received from the mirror 8 on to the mirror 10 which directs the light on to a graticule E, the arrangement being such that for small inclinations of the telescope a horizontal ray will still strike the graticule E. In another form, a single movable mirror is provided in conjunction with the fixed mirror, this mirror being pendulously supported, the vibrations of the pendulum being damped. Prisms may be used instead of mirrors and the pendulum may be suspended on a filament arranged in an inverted V-form (Fig. 5, not shown). As shown in Fig. 4, the pendulum 3 may be suspended by filaments 6 from a support 23 eddy-current dampers 20 being provided at different heights.
