Abstract
878,153. Photographic cameras DECKEL, H., and DECKEL, F. W. Jan. 2, 1958 [Jan. 12, 1957; May 17, 1957; Sept. 27, 1957], No. 182/58. Class 98(1) In a photographic camera, the shutter speed and diaphragm aperture are set by actuation of the sun wheels of a differential gear, the cage of which is rotatably coaxial with the optical axis of the camera and carries a planet wheel rotatable about an axis perpendicular to the optical axis. Preferably, the camera is provided with a built-in photo-electric exposure meter having a follower operatively connected to the cage of the differential. As shown, a sun wheel 24 is connected by arm 26 to a shutter speed adjusting ring 27 carrying an index 74 which reads on a stationary shutter speed scale 72. Sun wheel 30 is connected to iris diaphragm blades 20 and depth of field pointers 32. The diaphragm aperture is adjusted by turning cage 40 by knob 44 to bring follower 60 opposite exposure meter pointer 64 while shutter speed ring 27 is retained by a click or like releasable stop. The exposure meter is corrected for the film speed by means of releasable coupling 46, 48 and film speed scale 49. No indication of the change of diaphragm aperture except movement of pointers 32 is given. Subsequent movement of shutter speed ring 27 rotates planet wheel 38 to bring about compensating variations in the diaphragm aperture without disturbing cage 40 and follower 60. In another form, sun wheel teeth project radially inwards from shutter speed and diaphragm aperture scale rings and in an interchangeable lens mount a pinion corresponding to 52 remains on the camera while meshing inwardly directed teeth are provided on the differential cage which is carried in the lens mount. The cage is rotatable by means of a knob mounted on the camera body. As applied to a twin lens camera (Fig. 12-17, not shown), the cage is journalled on the shutter housing and the sun wheels are journalled on the cage and have internal teeth meshing with a planet wheel and external teeth meshing with scale rings rotatable about the finder objective. A pinion reverses the drive to the diaphragm aperture scale ring so that when the exposure value is invariant and the cage stationary both scale rings rotate equally in the same direction.
