Abstract
A process for nitriding metals comprises heating the metal while it is immersed in a watery solution of a nitrogen compound. The compound may be ammonia and the solution may also include an organic compound containing carbon or carbon and nitrogen. Heating may be by electrical resistance or induction and in the latter case the induction coil may also be immersed in the liquid. The liquid may also be sprayed on to the metal during heating.
