Abstract

877,844. Screw and nut actuators. BOFORS A.B. Jan. 19, 1960, No. 1976/60. Class 78 (3). [Also in Groups XXIX and XL (a)] A nuclear reactor control member 22 is moved axially by a nut 35 on a screw 33, the screw being turned through splines 34 by a shaft 6 and the nut being prevented from turning by a lug 36. The screw is held up by an electromagnet, at 32, so that the member 22 can be dropped rapidly by release of the magnet. The shaft is driven by electric motor 4, 5 and carries a nut (not shown) free for axial movement only and forming part of a position transmitter; the transmitter may be part of a servo system including a second, remote, transmitter and the motor.
