Abstract

996,154. Screw-and-nut gearing; valves. ROTORK ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 25, 1963 [May 1, 1962], No. 16731/62. Headings F2Q and F2V. In a valve actuator, rotation of a nut 14 rigidly mounted on the end of a rotatable output shaft 12 projecting from the actuator casing 10 causes axial movement of a valve spindle (not shown), the threaded end of which engages the nut 14. The nut is held on the shaft 12 by a sleeve 16 screwed to the shaft end, keyed connections 15 and a locking screw 20 preventing relative rotation of the nut and shaft. A thrust bearing 13 carries the axial loads on the shaft. In a modification, the thrust bearing 13 is fitted to the nut 14, being axially located between an external flange on the nut and a sleeve screwed on to the nut. Specification 939,353 is referred to.
