Abstract
Refractory materials such as magnesite and dolomite are converted into granular form such as briquettes and coarse lumps and then coated with an iron containing sintering flux for example powdered iron or red mud, prefixed to form a solid protective flux coating and finally sintered in a kiln. The flux coating is applied by dipping, rolling or spraying and the prefixing at temperatures of up to 900 DEG C. takes place on a gas permeable conveyer chain and the final sintering is effected in a rotary kiln.
