Abstract

877,102. Toy electric railways. DUFAY Ltd. Sept. 20, 1957 [June 26, 1956], No. 19741 /56. Class 132(3). Rectified A.C. supply for propelling the train of a toy electric railway is fed through a controller 9 to the. track rails 1, 2 and an A.C. supply for operating an accessory 3, e.g. a whistle or uncoupler, may be connected to the rails through a switch 6. A condenser 4 blocks the D.C. from the accessory 3. On changing the position of the switch from that shown, A.C. connected to leads 7, 8 is applied through a condenser 5 to the rails and the accessory 3 is operated. With the switch as shown, the condenser 5 serves to smooth the D.C. supply. To avoid unwanted acceleration of the train when the A.C. supply is switched in, a resistor 21 may be inserted in the D.C. supply when the A.C. supply is switched in, Fig. 3. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the switch is of the rotary type using wipers and contact studs. Fig. 5 shows the circuit arrangement of a motor coach 24 propelled by a D.C. motor 17 and coupled to a trailer 25. The coach and trailer are each provided with a red and a white lamp, the red lamp of one vehicle being wired in parallel with the white lamp of the other. By means of rectifiers 20, each parallel-wired pair of lamps is only energised when the D.C. supply is in one direction, the other pair of lamps being energised when the supply is reversed. A condenser 27 acts as a spark quencher. The railway can be worked by batteries with the addition of a transformer or vibrator for the supply. of A.C.
