Abstract

876,867. Gas turbine plant. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 5, 1960 [Feb. 9, 1959], No. 4171/60. Class 110 (3). A gas turbine power plant comprising a multistage axial flow compressor and a coaxial centrifugal compressor downstream thereof which discharges through an annular diffuser to a combustion chamber feeding a turbine driving the compressors, has the compressor means, turbine means and combustion chamber arranged in seriatim along an axis and a power take-off shaft transverse to the axis extending between the compressor means and combustion chamber. A compressor 10 consisting of a multistage axial flow compressor 17 followed by a centrifugal compressor 18 discharges through a diffusing collector or scroll 11 and ducting 16 to a combustion chamber 15. The combustion products from the combustion chamber drive a turbine 14 connected to the compressor 10 by a shaft 19. The exhaust gases from the turbine 14 are supplied to a free power turbine 13 connected by gearing to power take-off shaft 22. In a modification the two turbine wheels are arranged on a single shaft driving the compressor and external load. The turbines 13, 14 may be multi-stage turbines.
