Abstract

876,219. Vehicle rear and stop lights. OOSTEN, VAN, A. W. Dec. 3, 1959 [Dec. 3, 1958], No. 41107/59. Class 118. [Also in Group XI] In a combined stop/rear lamp, upon applying the hand or foot brake, a rotating luminous effect is obtained. The lamp bulb 6, having two filaments, is mounted in a central tube 5 with a sleeve 7 fitted to it, the sleeve co-operating with the pulley 8 of an electric motor 9. A casing 10 in which there are a number of notches encloses the sleeve 7 and is made to rotate about its axis by the motor. The casing 10 also slides along the sleeve 7 by means of a lever 13 connected to an electromagnet 17. The electromagnet 17, motor 9, and stop-light filament are connected in the same electric circuit such that on application of the brakes, they are simultaneously energized, the casing 10 is projetted forward and rotates giving a rotating luminous effect as light is intermittently reflected from the reflector 3. In a further embodiment, the reflector can be the rotating element being built up of segments, with a second identical reflector behind it such that normally the spaces in one are covered by the segments of the other giving complete beam reflection, but when the brakes are applied the reflectors rotate such that they do not coincide giving an interrupted beam.
