Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0875104/IV (b)/1> together with their acid addition salts and the preparation thereof by reducing a compound of the general formula: <FORM:0875104/IV (b)/2> wherein Y is a methylene or a carbonyl group and, if desired, converting the product into an acid addition salt, wherein R represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing fewer than 4 carbon atoms, n is 2 or 3, and Ar is phenyl, lower alkyl phenyl, lower alkoxy phenyl or halophenyl (including phenyl radicals containing more than one substituent, and lower indicating one or two carbon atoms in the group so defined) and Y is a methylene or carbonyl group. Compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0875104/IV (b)/3> are prepared by reacting a 1-o-(hydrocarbon substituted)thiophenyl piperazine with an appropriate o -halophenone, ArCO(CH2)n.Hal. Compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0875104/IV (b)/4> are prepared by reacting a 1-o-(hydrocarbon substituted)thiophenylpiperazine with an appropriate aroylalkanoic acid, Ar.CO(CH)n-1COOH or a reactive derivative thereof. 1 - o - Isopropylthiophenylpiperazine is prepared by reacting 2-aminobenzenethiol with isopropyl bromide to give o-iso-propylthio-aniline and reacting this with bis-(b -bromoethyl)amine hydrobromide.
