Abstract

4-Chloro-D 4-3-keto-steroid compounds are prepared by treating D 4-3-keto-steroid compounds in an organic base solvent such as pyridine or dimethylaniline with sulphuryl chloride. In the examples 4-chloro-substituted testosterone acetate and propionate, progesterone, D 4-androstene-3,17-dione, cholestenone and desoxycorticosterone acetate are prepared. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 792,727.
